£6k damage to Cumbria Highways depot following break-in

CCC Logo 4

A Cumbria County Council depot at Lillyhall, used by the Cumbria Highways team, was broken in to and suffered criminal damage over the weekend.  Extensive damage was caused to THREE highways vehicles, resulting in approximately £6,000 worth of damage.

Karl Melville, Highways & Transport Manager for Cumbria, said:

“This is hugely disruptive to Cumbria Highways - we need all of our fleet in operation to ensure we are working at full capacity across all of the various highway projects, and to respond to out-of-hour emergencies as well as new call-outs throughout the day. My team work incredibly hard in challenging circumstances, and the result of this break-in means the people of Cumbria are now short of three vehicles used to maintain the safety of Cumbria’s roads network.”
