Arnside Educational Institute event to celebrate opening of new extension and Library Link

Arnside Educational Institute is holding an event to celebrate the opening of their new extension, which has been part-funded by Cumbria County Council on Saturday 10 September at 3.30pm. This will include the official launch of the Library Link which is housed in the same building.

Councillor Ian Stewart, Councillor for Arnside and Cabinet member for Public Health and Community Services will be attending.

Councillor Stewart said:

“This event is a fantastic way to launch the new extension and the new library area. Maintaining library services across Cumbrian communities is of paramount importance to the council, and the new facility will provide a modern, welcoming space, offering disabled access and a children’s area. I’m also very pleased to confirm the new extended opening hours - the local community will benefit tremendously from their library being accessible 6 days a week.”

The new site is fully accessible with a ramped entrance and automatic doors, dedicated children’s area and soft seating.  The opening hours have vastly improved from being open 15 hours per week to now being open every weekday 9am - 7pm and Saturday 9am - 5pm.

The Library Link operates on a self-service basis via the use of a ‘self-issue machine.’

Library users have adjusted well to using the machine and are given assistance if needed by library staff. The Library Link is performing well, issuing 7,000 books between April 2015 and April 2016, and is the second highest performing Library Link in Cumbria.
