Public consultation on proposed Bowness highway improvements

Bowness

A public consultation meeting to discuss outline proposals to enhance the public realm on the promenade is being held at The Belsfield Hotel, Bowness on Tuesday 9th August.  The consultation is a public drop-in throughout the day between 10am and 7pm. The proposals are subject to a successful bid for funding for the project, a decision on which is expected in the Autumn Statement. The purpose of the consultation is to understand the local community’s views on the proposed works, and to take account of their needs and interests ahead of any new works commencing.

Bowness Bay is a key destination for both local residents and visitors to the area, as well as a hub for sustainable travel on Lake Windermere. The scheme would build on the highway improvement works along Glebe Road, which will recommence in September 2016 following delays caused by a burst rising main and will continue until March 2017.

Councillor Keith Little, Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport said:

“This would be a fantastic project for Bowness and really enhance connectivity for local people and visitors alike. This is an exciting phase of the scheme to improve the infrastructure in one of the most popular areas of our county, and will be a tremendous asset to the many people who will use it. Understanding the views of the local community is vital in the planning and delivery of these projects and we look forward to the consultation meeting in August.”

The council is committed to involving and informing the local community in every stage of the delivery of this project to improve connectivity, and is grateful for their support and understanding.
