Cumbria County Council Christmas and New Year opening hours 2016

Most council offices across the county will be open as normal on Wednesday 28, Thursday 29 and Friday 30 December. Offices will be closed on weekends and bank holidays - Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Monday 27 December and Monday 2 January, and will reopen as per normal office hours on Tuesday, 3 January 2017.

Adult Social Care
Residential and home care services operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Adult Social Care offices opening hours are as follows:
Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day - Closed
Tuesday 27 December - Closed
Wednesday 28, Thursday 29, Friday 30 December - 9am to 5pm
New Year’s Day - Closed
Monday 2 January 2017 - Closed

Open usual hours from Tuesday 3 January 2017.

Children's Services
Children's social care offices: Cumbria House and Morton Family Centre, Carlisle; Eden Family Centre and Skirsgill, Penrith; New Oxford Street, Workington; Market Street, Barrow; Blencathra House, Whitehaven; and South Lakes District Council, Kendal will all be closed on weekends and bank holidays but open 9am - 5pm on 28, 29 and 30 December. 

Normal office hours will be resumed from Tuesday 3 January 2017.
During closure periods, the out-of-hours number is 0333 240 1727 - which can be used 24-hours a day for children's social care emergencies.

Recycling
Household Waste Recycling Centre’s will all be open as usual throughout the festive season with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, when they will all be closed.
They will all be closing at the slightly earlier time of 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Otherwise they will be open at the usual opening hours:
Ambleside, Rothay Holme - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
Kendal, Canal Head 8am - 6pm, seven days a week. (note: opening has been extended to 6pm until further notice)
Ulverston, Morecambe Road - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
Grange-over-Sands, Guides Lot - 8am - 4pm, Thursday - Saturday (note: may open later or close early during winter for health and safety reasons)
Frizington, Yeathouse Quarry - 8am - 4pm, seven days a week. (note: may open later or close early during winter for health and safety reasons)
Millom, Redhills - 8am - 4pm for recycling materials, 8am - 2pm for residual household waste, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Penrith, Flusco - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
Kirkby Stephen, Hobsons Lane - 8am - 6pm, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
Maryport, Glasson Industrial Estate - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
Workington, Clay Flatts - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
Wigton, Syke Park 8am - 6pm, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday.
Barrow, Walney Road - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
Carlisle, Bousteads Grassing - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
Brampton, Townfoot Industrial Estate - 10am - 6pm every day except Tuesday


Cumbria Highways
The Highways Hotline, 0300 303 2992 will be available until 5pm on Friday 23 December, reopening 8.30am Tuesday 3 January.  During bank holidays the public can still report a fault via the website at http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/Landing_page/roadsandtravel.asp
Any emergencies during this period should be reported to the police.
During public holidays over the Christmas period, calls to the police should be limited to serious highways problems such as flooding, landslips and severe weather alerts.
Staff will be on-call throughout the holiday period to deal with highways issues, including severe weather problems.

Windermere Ferry
The ferry will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It will run on New Year's Day between 10.10am and 5.30pm (times from Ferry Nab). Otherwise, the ferry will operate its usual service, crossing between Ferry Nab at Bowness and Ferry House at Far Sawrey between 6.50am and 8.50pm Monday to Saturday and between 9.50am and 8.50pm on Sunday.

Libraries
All libraries will be closed on bank holidays. The six group libraries (Carlisle, Penrith, Barrow, Whitehaven, Workington, Kendal) will be open on Christmas Eve until 1pm; from 10am until 5pm on 28, 29 and 30 December, and on New Year’s Eve from 10am to 1pm. Branch libraries will close at 1pm on Christmas Eve and reopen on Tuesday 3 January 2017 when normal opening hours resume.
