Have your say on new cycle routes in Kendal

Big Pedal

A drop-in session will take place next week to allow the public to view and have their say on proposals for two new cycleways in Kendal.

New cycle routes being planned are:

The North Kendal Cycle Route, running the length of Shap Road from Morrisons into the town centre

The A65 Burton Road Route, running from Oxenholme to Kirkbie Kendal School

A drop-in event is being held at Kendal Town Hall on Friday 18 March between 2pm and 6pm. There will be an opportunity to view plans for the cycle routes, ask questions and comment on the proposed schemes.

The new cycle routes form part of a package of infrastructure improvements in Kendal to support anticipated new developments in the town identified in South Lakeland District Council’s Local Plan.

As part of the Cumbria Growth Deal secured by Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, £2.3 million has been set aside to fund infrastructure improvements in Kendal. Cumbria County Council is delivering the schemes, which also include road junction and footway works to improve access around the town.

Councillor Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “These new cycle routes will link in with existing cycling infrastructure in Kendal and make it easier for people to get around the town on their bikes. We want people to give us their comments, suggestions and feedback on the proposals, so we can take them into account when final design plans are drawn up.”

Anyone unable to attend the drop-in will be able to view the plans on the council’s website from next week. Comments can be emailed to Kendal.Improvements@cumbria.gov.uk .
