Kendal Freegle day - grab a household freebie or give away your unwanted items!

Freegle Day

People in Kendal and surrounding areas can pop along to their local Freegle event next weekend to grab a household freebie and give away unwanted items.

The Give and Take day, on Saturday 12 November, 2 - 4pm at Castle Street Community Centre, Kendal, allows anyone to pick up any item for free - including toys, books, clothes and kitchenware, preventing goods from being sent to treatment or waste. It’s also an opportunity for householders to give away items they no longer need.

Across the UK, Freegle keeps around 1,000 tonnes of goods in circulation every month.

Councillor Janet Willis, Cumbria County Council cabinet member for Environment said:

“These kind of events are becoming increasingly popular and really are great news for everybody involved. They mean useful items find a new home rather than ending up in the bin and ultimately in a waste treatment facility. So events such as these can really reduce the cost of waste in the county in so many ways and also help to nurture these positive behaviours amongst the people of Cumbria. I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and pick up a freebie!”

Louise Belcher of Kendal Freegle said:

“Everyone is welcome to come to our Give and Take day and you don’t have to donate in order to take something.”

Any goods left over will be donated to a local charity.
