Resurfacing work on Keswick-Seatoller road

Road works sign

This work is being carried out to seal in the existing carriageway surface, which will protect it from surface water damage in future as well as improve the skid resistance of the road surface.
?

The surface dressing works are expected to last for approximately four days. To enable this work to be safely carried out, it will be necessary to temporarily close this section of road during working hours (approx. 6am to 6pm) during this period.
?

The start date is subject to change because the surface dressing process is weather dependent and can only be carried out during dry weather conditions.
?

A signed diversion, via the A66 and B5292, will be in place during the temporary road closure. There will also be signs in place advising that businesses in the area are open as usual.
?

Access for residents and businesses will be maintained throughout the road closure. Access will also be maintained for emergency service vehicles as well as pedestrians and dismounted cyclists. Staff will be on hand throughout the road closure to advise drivers and marshal vehicles through the works site.
?

Councillor Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Highways, said: “This essential maintenance work can only be done in warmer weather. We’ve timed the work to take place before the busy school summer holidays, and also to avoid clashing with the Lakesman triathlon event at the weekend. We will be working with our contractor to get the work done as soon as possible but there will inevitably be some disruption and we would advise drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys. We apologise for any inconvenience during this period.”
?

A temporary 20mph speed limit will be in place during and immediately after the road surfacing works, for the safety of motorists and to allow the new road surface to become fully embedded.
