Kendal - essential highways resurfacing works

Road works sign

C5048 BEAST BANKS - ALL HALLOWS LANE TO GREENSIDE

Resurfacing works are due to commence in Kendal on Sunday 14 August 2016 and are expected to be completed by Friday 19 August.

Aggregate Industries Ltd will be carrying out these works on behalf of Cumbria County Council.

The work involves the complete replacement of the surface to provide a long term solution to the deteriorating condition of the existing road.

A full road closure is necessary so that the works can be carried out in line with current health and safety legislation.

We recognise this is a key route in the town and have arranged for the works to take place outside of normal working hours and the road closures will be operational during the following periods:

Sunday 14 August: All Hallows Lane / Low Fellside Junction 17:00 - 00:30 (approx.)

Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 August: Beast Banks - Belmont Junction 18:00 - 00:30 (approx.)

Wednesday 17 August: Belmont - Summer Hill Gardens 18:00 - 00:30 (approx.)

Thursday 18 and Friday 19 August: Summer Hill - Greenside 18:00 - 00:30 (approx.)

We would ask residents to assist by refraining from parking any vehicles on the affected length of carriageway during the closure periods

The decision to carry out the work during the evenings and into the night has been taken to minimise disruption to both businesses and the travelling public. Unfortunately it would not be possible to undertake the work during normal working hours due to the strategic importance of the route and the high volume of traffic which it carries.

Regrettably it is inevitable that works of this nature will create disturbance, there will be noise generated by the machinery required to undertake the works which cannot be avoided. We are working with our contractor to ensure this disturbance is kept to a minimum and we apologise for any inconvenience.

Access for affected businesses and residents will be maintained, as far as possible, throughout the duration of the works. Appropriately signed diversions will be in place during each phase and traffic marshals will be available on site to assist with diverted traffic and local access.

We would be very grateful if businesses could make arrangements to schedule any deliveries they may have outside of the working period.

We would also ask for your patience and co-operation whilst the works are in progress and assure you that every effort will be made to keep the disruption to a minimum.  If you have any particular concerns which we should know in advance of the works please do not hesitate to contact Cumbria Highways on 0300 303 2992, during normal working hours.
