Launch of new Library Link in Dalston

Cumbria County Council launches a new Library Link service in Dalston on Tuesday 10th January 2017 at 3.30pm at St Michael’s Church, Dalston.

The new service, which will be temporarily located within St Michael’s Church, is to be delivered in partnership with Dalston Parish Council and the Parochial Church Council, and will be formally launched by local Councillor Trevor Allison and Councillor Ian Stewart, Cabinet Member for Community Services and Public Health.

The public are being invited to come along to the launch and meet library staff and volunteers, find out more about the library service and borrow from a range of library books.  Following the launch the Library Link, the opening times from 11th January will be Tuesdays 9:00 - 13:00, Wednesdays 13:00 - 17:00, Thursdays 13:00 - 17:00 and Saturdays 10:00 - 12:00. The library link will not be operational during church services or ceremonies.

Users of the Library Link can borrow from a wide range of adults and children’s books, local history books and children’s storysacks.   Stock at the Library Link will be exchanged regularly by library staff so there will always be a good selection of books from which to choose from each time people visit.  Users will need their library card to borrow books from the Library Link, if people are not yet library members this can easily be arranged.  Library members will also have access to free online eBooks, magazines, audiobooks and reference titles.  Read digital books and magazines, listen to downloadable audiobooks, research encyclopaedias and dictionaries, access online reference information or do a course, 24/7 all for free.  Users will need their 14 digit library membership number to access these resources.

Cllr Trevor Allison said:

“It’s great to be launching this new service today and I’m sure it will be a real asset to the village. The church has shown a lot of commitment to this project and without them it wouldn’t have happened, I’d like to particularly thank David Cowen for his efforts. I’d also like to thank Pauline Dalton for her role in organising the volunteers who will help provide the service. I’m very much looking forward to seeing this Library Link open and in use by the local community.”

Cllr Ian Stewart, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Community Services, added:

“This is typical of the Library service’s proactive approach to shaping services locally by directing resources to areas where they are needed the most. I’m sure the new Library Link will be a great success.”
