New Gooseholme footbridge to be installed by end of January 2019

Cumbria County Council is pleased to confirm that works to progress the replacement of Gooseholme footbridge in Kendal are now underway.  The replacement footbridge is being delivered by the council and jointly funded with support from South Lakeland District Council and the Environment Agency.

The design of the replacement bridge, which will provide improved access for pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users, is now underway, with construction works intended to be complete by the end of January 2019.

The footbridge will form a key part of Kendal’s cycle network and provide a link to and from the New Road green space.

Gooseholme footbridge was one of nearly 800 bridges that were damaged or destroyed by Storm Desmond in December 2015. To date, the council has completed repairs to 278, with work currently ongoing to a further 264. The overall Flood Recovery Programme involving over 1,200 schemes is set to complete in Summer 2019.

The council is grateful to the local community for their patience and recognises that the absence of the footbridge has been inconvenient.
