Police and Crime Panel confirms appointment of new Chief Constable

On Friday Cumbria's Police and Crime Panel held a confirmation hearing for  Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall's proposed candidate for the position of Chief Constable, Michelle Skeer.

At the two hour hearing, panel members asked questions covering her experience, skills, motivations and vision for policing in the county. The panel also received an independent report which reviewed the appointment process followed by the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Following consideration of the evidence presented to them, the panel voted to confirm Mrs Skeer's appointment.

Cllr Steven Bowditch, Chair of the Cumbria Police and Crime Panel, said:

"As Cumbria's top police officer, appointing the right person is absolutely vital. Mrs Skeer's application for the post and her responses to the panel's questioning was comprehensive and impressive. Her experience and passion for the job, and the county, came across strongly. We were confident both in the robustness of the appointment process undertaken by Mr McCall and the quality of his proposed candidate. We wish Mrs Skeer every success in her new position."
