Changes to car parking arrangements at County Hall, Kendal

Work will start next week on a series of improvements to car parking facilities at County Hall, Kendal.

Cumbria County Council is carrying out the improvements following a review of car parking arrangements around County Hall.

The entire car park will be resurfaced and re-lined to provide approximately 250 spaces. This will include improved cycle parking/storage facilities, twelve disabled bays, parent and child bays and visitors parking. Thomas Armstrong has been appointed as the main contractor and the improvement works are expected to last for 18 weeks.

The council will work with our contractor to maintain as many parking spaces as possible while the improvement works take place on site, including provision of disabled bays as well as access to the County Hall offices.

Following a review of parking arrangements, the county council will be introducing pay and display charging for car parking at County Hall from early in the New Year so the car park will be open to the public to use and to provide additional parking in the town.

The council recognises that the introduction of charging for car parking may be unpopular with some. However, charging for car parking at County Offices in Kendal will ensure consistency with other council offices located in town/city centres in Cumbria. It also provides the finance to improve the car park and will ensure it stays in a good standard of repair. It will also contribute to a healthy turnover of spaces and thereby reduce congestion in the town centre.
