Community bus service launched between Warcop and Appleby

A new community transport scheme has been launched by Cumbria County Council, providing a community minibus service between Warcop and Appleby.  The service launched in September and runs every Friday morning, with the first collection in Warcop next to The Croft at 9.20am.

The new route is part of the council’s ‘Community Wheels’ scheme which aims to provide transport solutions to local communities not served by a regular bus operators route.

The bus has been provided by the Appleby Heritage Centre, who will also handle bookings for the service.  Volunteers have been recruited and trained to operate the service.

Commenting on the new service, Cllr Keith Little, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:

“This is a fantastic new service which will be hugely beneficial to the local community.  I am delighted that the council is working in partnership with Warcop Parish Council and community organisations such as Appleby Heritage Centre and I would also like to say a big thank you to the fantastic volunteers who make services like this possible.”

For more information on the new service, or to reserve a place, please contact Appleby Heritage Centre on 017683 53350.
