Council update on offers of help and assistance

The council continues to receive a high number of offers of help and many of these have already been used to help the individuals, businesses and communities devastated by the recent flooding.

Gillian Elliott, Area Manager for Copeland, said:

“The volume of offers has been incredible and we thank everyone involved for their support. We have had over 500 offers of assistance varying from volunteers, food, Christmas presents and hampers to mattresses, furniture, use of homes and vehicles. We must now try to match these fantastic offers with the items needed in the communities affected.”

The focus going forward is to ensure we are able to get the right support to the right people as soon as possible, therefore we are currently seeking:

·       Dehumidifiers and heaters to assist with water extraction

·       Painting and decorating supplies

·       Places for storage

·       Washing and cleaning supplies

The picture of need across Cumbria is ever developing, the council is working alongside partners to match the offers of support coming in with the help that is needed in communities. Going forward the 'need' will inevitably change, in which case the council is asking those affected or working in support roles to monitor our new flood feed to stay up to date with the ongoing situation.

The council would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the flood recovery operations for their continued support.
