Highly Pathogenic Avian influenza H5N1 (otherwise known as Bird Flu) has been confirmed in commercial poultry at a premises near Langwathby, Eden, Cumbria (AIV2023/02). A 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone have been put in place around the premises. All poultry on the premises will be humanely culled.

Cumbria County Council is investing £480,000 to improve the condition of Langwathby Bridge on the A686 and road surface through the village.
