Cumbria gritters to be calibrated

Cumbria County Council has been calibrating gritters over the following days.

The Highways team have been calibrating the gritters from the Skirsgill Depot on Wednesday of this week and will be out again from the Dalston Depot on Monday 26 September.

In the calibration process, salt is spread in a set pattern, and gritters are weighed at before and after the salt is spread. The gritters are weighed at Thomas Armstrong Cardewmire Weighbridge, Dalston.

A gritter will spread minimal salt on Monday 26 September between 8.30am and 3.30pm on the B5299 for calibration purposes. Please see the attached route.

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said:

“The county council is geared up to keep the county on the move throughout the coming winter, with 24,000 tonnes of salt stockpiled to treat roads and a 33-strong fleet of gritters ready to roll.

“We are always prepared for the winter months in order to provide the residents with the best service possible.”

“During winter, Cumbria's highway staff work around the clock to ensure the county stays connected, often working in extreme weather conditions to keep Cumbria moving, which we are all very grateful for.”
