Following the successful consultation in May 2021, Cumbria County Council is seeking additional views and feedback on the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) in Penrith, Whitehaven and Workington. During the first round of consultation, many suggestions for improving the infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians were made. The consultation results can be viewed at Cumbria County Council cycling and walking information (hyperlink). Cumbria County Council, in partnership with Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and Cumbria’s six district councils, would now like to receive further input from residents and businesses to ensure that the LCWIPs are the best they can be. Demonstrating local support for the proposals is particularly important when applying to the Department for Transport for funding to deliver the infrastructure improvements. This second round of consultation will help us to identify and prioritise the improvements needed so everyone can feel confident walking or cycling to work, school, community hubs and other areas in their town. All feedback will be helpful in assisting the funding applications, which, if successful, will help us increase active travel in Cumbria, reduce travel by car and help shape the future for cyclists and pedestrians over the next ten years. The second round of consultations will begin on Friday 4 February to Friday 25 February. To provide feedback you can: • Respond online • Attend one of our public consultation drop-in sessions • Complete the questionnaire and return it to FREEPOST CUMBRIA COUNTY COUNCIL. To find out more information about the LCWIPs please view our walking and cycling project (hyperlink) or to attend a drop-in session, please go to: · Penrith - Thursday 10 February between 2.00pm and 5.30pm at Penrith Library, St. Andrews Churchyard, Penrith CA11 7YA. · Workington - Tuesday 22 February between 3.00pm and 6.00pm, at Workington Leisure Centre, Griffin Street, Workington CA14 2DX · Whitehaven: - Thursday 24 February between 2.00pm and 5.00pm at Whitehaven Library, Lowther Street, Whitehaven CA28 7QZ. Officers from Cumbria County Council will be on hand to answer questions about this consultation during each drop-in session. Additionally, for the duration of this consultation, an LCWIP information display will be available at each venue. For further details on the consultation, online survey, and collection points of the document please visit Cumbria County Council cycling and walking information (hyperlink). Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “There has never been a better time for residents, businesses, and the community to have their say on their future cycling and walking routes. Our goal is to improve connectivity, but we also want people to explore and enjoy the beauty of Cumbria, while also improving air quality, reaping the benefits of a healthier lifestyle, reducing congestion, and the vibrancy of towns. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and let us know what you think. Every suggestion will be considered, which will help us to improve the future network for cycling and walking in Penrith, Whitehaven, and Workington.".
