Speed limits to change in Allerdale

Cumbria County Council are informing the public that some of the speed limits will be changing in Allerdale, in mid-March.

Following a statutory consultation process, the following changes were agreed by Allerdale Local Committee, more information can be found on the county council website.

The new speed limits, will apply to the following roads, in mid-March:

A595

  • Extension of the existing 50mph speed limit on the A595 from its junction with Barras Brow to the Thursby roundabout.

A596

  • Extension of the existing 50mph speed limit on the A596 at the north-east end of Wigton bypass for approx. 5km towards Micklethwaite.
  • Introduction a 40mph speed limit on the A596 from the proposed 50mph termination point in the proposal above, through Micklethwaite for approx. 1.5 miles to a point approx. east of the Crofton junction.
  • Introduction of a 50mph speed limit on the A596 from the termination point in the proposal above (approx. east of the Crofton junction), extending to the Thursby roundabout.

A594

  • Introduction of a 40mph speed limit on the A594 at Dovenby.

Brigham, Cockermouth

  • Introduction of a 30mph speed limit on the C2065 Low Road, Brigham incorporating the existing 30mph speed limits which are in existence due to the presence of street lighting.

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:

“The news is excellent news for road users, and I am very pleased that Allerdale Local Committee, supported these speed changes.

"Public safety is our top priority, and these changes will help to ensure that residents and businesses can travel along these roads safely and efficiently."
