Three classroom extensions for Pennine Way Primary School

Cumbria County Council is investing £1.5 million to build three new classrooms and facilities at Pennine Way Primary School in Carlisle.

Construction preparations will begin today (11 February) and will continue next week with establishment of site fencing, contractors site cabins and compound alongside the commencement of ground and drainage works.

Pennine Way Primary School has a need to expand its classrooms to accommodate expected pupil numbers. The new classrooms will be ready by September 2022, and Top Notch Contractors Ltd have been appointed to undertake the work.

Cllr Sue Sanderson, Cumbria County Council Cabinet memberfor Schools and Learning, said:

"Investing £1.5 million in education proves how committed we are to the education of our children and protecting our assets for the future.”

"This school expansion will allow Pennine Way Primary School to accommodate the increasing number of students. The new classrooms and facilities will allow students to feel at home in their surroundings, which will benefit their learning too".

"To minimise disruption, all work will be coordinated with campus occupants (Pennine Way School and Harraby Community Centre).”
